What Is A Gear Motor

 

Gear motor (DC reduction motor) is a combination of electric motors (DC brush motor, brushless DC motor, AC motor) and gear transmission reduction system (gearbox), the output shaft of the motor is connected to the gear, the bearing provides support, and the gear motor can provide higher torque and lower speed than the motor.

 

 

How Does The DC Gear Motor Work?


By combining with different gearing systems (spur gear, planetary gear, worm gear), the reduction motor can provide greater torque for the application. The performance of the gear motor is affected by the following factors: transmission design, transmission ratio, gear material, lubricating oil, output shaft, etc.

 

 

Types And Advantages Of Different Gear Motors

 

Spur gear motor: The design concept of spur gear reducer is to reduce the speed of the transmission device through the transmission ratio generated by the meshing of the gears with different numbers of teeth. So each stage of the gear is the force point, the transmission speed from the motor shaft began to drop step by step, torque step by step increase. This is the original transmission design.

 

Planetary reducer motor: planetary gear box is mainly composed of planetary gear, sun wheel and outer gear ring. And by controlling the number of teeth of solar energy and the number of teeth of planetary gear to achieve different deceleration ratio design. For planetary gearboxes, the first stage reduction ratio of standard planetary gearboxes is proposed to be less than 1:10.

 

The experimental results show that the efficiency of the gearbox is the highest when the gearbox reduction ratio is 1:4 or 1:5. Therefore, engineers can achieve higher deceleration ratio requirements by designing 2-stage and 3-stage deceleration structures. But this means that the length of the gearbox will increase compared to the low-speed ratio gearbox.

 

Worm gear reducer motor: Worm gear motor is a type of gear motor consisting of two main components: worm gear and worm. A worm wheel is a cylindrical gear with helical teeth similar to a screw, while a worm is a cylindrical shaft with spiral threads that meshes with the worm wheel. This unique design enables worm gear motors to deliver high torque and lower speed.
