Brushless motors have been widely used in various fields due to their high efficiency, high speed, high reliability, and superior control performance, gradually replacing traditional brush motors as the preferred choice.
However, due to its high manufacturing cost and complex control system, it is necessary to choose and use it according to specific application requirements.
The working principle of brushless motors
The working principle of brushless motors mainly involves the following aspects:
Permanent magnets: Brushless motors typically contain one or more permanent magnets placed on the rotor of the motor. These permanent magnets have magnetism and can provide continuous power during motor operation.
Rotor position sensor: In order to determine the position of the rotor, a position sensor is usually installed inside a brushless motor. The function of this sensor is to send a signal to the driver when the rotor rotates, thereby indicating the exact position of the rotor.
Driver: The driver is responsible for receiving signals from position sensors as well as start, stop, brake, and other control signals. It is also responsible for managing the current on the electromagnet (stator) to generate an appropriate magnetic field and generate torque through magnetic interactions with the permanent magnet.
Electromagnet: The coils inside the stator form an electromagnet, and the magnetic field they generate interacts with the permanent magnet, driving the rotor to rotate.
Current control: The driver adjusts the magnetic field strength by controlling the current on the electromagnet, thereby affecting the magnitude of the torque. In addition, the driver will also change the direction of the current as needed to achieve continuous torque generation.
Comparison between Brushless Motor and Brushed Motor: The main difference between Brushless Motor and Brushed DC Motor is that Brushless Motor does not have a brush sliding device, which means they produce almost no noise and are easy to maintain. Brushing motors require regular maintenance, such as replacing the brushes.
In summary, brushless motors are designed to operate autonomously without the need for brush sliding through built-in position sensors and drivers, combined with the interaction between permanent magnets and electromagnets. This type of motor is widely used in various occasions, including unmanned aerial vehicle propellers and brushless electric vehicles, due to its high efficiency and reliability.
